The privilege of sharing

2 Corinthians 8

And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will.

Since I've been home from Haiti, I've often ponder how the people could seem so happy and content while living in the terrible conditions that they live in. We visited an orphanage that had 44 children to care for in Port au Prince. Amidst the poverty that pledged the city, they cooked lunch for us (a group of about 40 ourselves!). They welcomed us into their home, sang to us with great joy, fed us and lifted our very spirits. God will make a way when there seems to be no way. I guess there is a peace that surpasses understanding!
